Andrology Services and Male Fertility
Preservation at ICRM

At the Idaho Center for Reproductive Medicine (ICRM), we recognize the importance of preserving fertility for men facing various circumstances. Our Andrology services provide options for sperm banking and freezing, ensuring you have the resources needed to build your family when the time is right.

What is Fertility Preservation?

Fertility preservation involves the cryopreservation of sperm, eggs, and embryos, allowing individuals to store their reproductive cells for future use. This process can be essential for many men, particularly before undergoing procedures or treatments that may affect their fertility. Our Andrology services cover every step of this process, including CryoStorage.

Reasons for Fertility Preservation

There are several reasons why men may consider sperm freezing:

Explore Egg Donation

Patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other gonadotoxic treatments can benefit from freezing sperm before starting these processes. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, check out our Fertility for Cancer Patients.
Surgical Interventions

Men facing surgery that involves the removal of the testes or other reproductive organs may choose to preserve sperm beforehand.

Gender Transitioning
For individuals undergoing hormone therapy or gender-affirming surgery, preserving sperm before treatment can be crucial for future family planning.
Age-Related Fertility Declines
Men may also choose to freeze sperm to ensure fertility as they age or to mitigate potential reproductive challenges in the future.

Sperm Freezing Process

There are several reasons why men may consider sperm freezing:

Initial Consultation: The process begins with a consultation at ICRM, where our team discusses your goals and gathers your medical history to create your personalized plan.

Sperm Collection: Sperm freezing can occur through ejaculation. In cases where ejaculation isn’t possible, our specialized urologists can assist with surgical extraction methods.

Cryopreservation: Once a semen sample is collected, it undergoes cryopreservation, where it is frozen and stored at extremely low temperatures, preserving the viability and quality of the sperm for future use.

Storage and Monitoring: Frozen sperm can be stored indefinitely in our facility. We implement strict protocols to monitor all samples, ensuring they remain viable and ready for future use.
