Gestational Carrier (Surrogacy)

The journey to parenthood can be both complex and exciting, and for many intended parents, gestational surrogacy is a wonderful option for bringing family dreams to life.

ICRM partners closely with many local surrogacy agencies here in Boise and agencies across the United States to provide the best possible patient experience for both intended parents and their selected gestational carriers. Our highly experienced team looks forward to supporting you as you navigate the path to parenthood with the help of a gestational carrier.

Why Choose ICRM and Boise?

As a full-service fertility clinic, ICRM is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and is a proud Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) member. We’ve earned recognition as one of the top fertility clinics globally, known for our high success rates in gestational carrier cycles.

Boise is home to numerous altruistic gestational carrier agencies that work closely with us to facilitate a smooth and ethical process. With a lower cost of living, the compensation rates for gestational carriers in Boise are typically more affordable than in larger metropolitan areas. Although we don’t have our own surrogate pool, our established partnerships with reliable local and nationwide agencies ensure that you find the right surrogate for our criteria and receive top-notch, personalized care.

Our clinic does one of the highest percentages of IVF cycles with gestational carriers among U.S. clinics. We were even featured in the award-winning documentary film “Made in Boise,” which follows the journeys of several families and gestational carriers in Boise, Idaho, exploring the surrogacy process and the personal stories behind their quest for parenthood—journeys that we’re honored to be part of.

Selecting and Working with a Surrogate

Finding a Surrogate

Finding the right surrogate is essential, and our team is here to simplify the process. Whether you prefer an independent surrogate or opt for a surrogacy agency, we collaborate with reputable agencies nationwide to help you match with the ideal candidate based on your criteria and expectations.

Screening, Synchronization, and Embryo Transfer

Once you have selected a gestational carrier, we will begin synchronizing the fertility cycles of both the intended parents and the carrier to maximize the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Both you and your gestational carrier will undergo screenings to assess health maintenance and infectious diseases, and you will participate in a psychological consultation. We will also connect you with a lawyer specializing in reproductive law to facilitate the contract between you and the gestational carrier.

The gestational carrier will be thoroughly evaluated to ensure she is a suitable candidate. This screening process includes reviewing her medical history, a physical examination,

psychological assessments, laboratory work, and a saline sonogram to evaluate her uterine health. We will synchronize her uterine receptivity with the embryo’s maturity to enhance the chances of a successful pregnancy per embryo transfer.

Once screening is complete, gestational carriers begin by taking birth control pills to prepare the uterus for implantation, followed by estrogen and progesterone supplements. Using standard IVF techniques, we retrieve and fertilize the eggs with sperm from the recipient couple or a chosen donor. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and filtration systems to ensure optimal embryo quality, and we also offer pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) on embryos. The embryo is then transferred into the gestational carrier at the blastocyst stage using a soft catheter under ultrasound guidance. We aim to achieve the highest success rates for pregnancy, resulting in a healthy gestational carrier and a fulfilling journey to parenthood.

But Wait, What is Surrogacy Like?

We’re often asked, “What is surrogacy like?” Both intended parents and those considering becoming a gestational carrier want to know what they can expect and how they might feel mentally and emotionally. To better understand what surrogacy is like and what you can expect, we recommend watching this touching docuseries from the Today Show featuring two families who share their experiences navigating the surrogacy process.

Benefits of Boise

Boise offers a high success gestational carrier cycle at affordable costs. Boise and its surrounding areas provide a “family friendly” environment. Boise has many gestational carrier agencies and available gestational carriers who are altruistic and wholesome. ICRM’s team is in close communication with the local gestational carrier agencies and reproductive lawyers to provide a close-knit teamwork effect. ICRM prides itself to personally know their patients very well and to provide personal care. Because of Idaho’s lower cost of living, often gestational carrier compensations are lower than rates quoted in larger metropolitan areas. ICRM works with gestational carrier agencies and gestational carriers all over the entire United States.

Gestational carrier cycles are ideal for women with contraindications to pregnancy, women born without a uterus or have an abnormal uterus, for women who have had either high risk pregnancies or recurrent pregnancy loss, and for single men and gay male couples who are interested in family building.

Carrier Synchronization

If you are undergoing a fertility cycle consisting of IVF with a gestational carrier, we will coordinate both your cycle and your gestational carrier’s cycle. Both you and your gestational carrier will be screened for health maintenance, infectious diseases, and have a psychological educational consultation. We will refer you to a lawyer who has expertise in reproductive law so that a contract can be obtained between the intended parents and the gestational carrier.

The gestational carrier will also have screening to make sure she is a fit gestational carrier candidate. Screening includes medical history, physical exam, psychological screening, lab work, and a saline sonogram to evaluate her uterus and make sure there are no uterine causes of diminished uterine receptivity and/or implantation. We will synchronize the uterine receptivity of the gestational carrier’s uterus to the embryo maturity to maximize the chance of pregnancy per embryo transfer.

Embryo Transfer

To prepare the uterus for implantation, the gestational carriers will take birth control pills, followed by estrogen and progesterone supplementation. With standard IVF techniques, the eggs are retrieved and fertilized with the sperm from the recipient couple or chosen sperm donor. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, air filtration systems, microscopes, incubators, airflow hoods, and room filters to ensure the highest embryo quality outcomes.  We offer pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) on the embryos also. The embryo is transferred into the gestational carrier at the blastocyst stage with soft catheter under ultrasound guidance. Our goal is to have the highest success of a pregnancy with a healthy gestational carrier resulting in a happy pregnancy and healthy baby.
